WHO IS St. Philip ?

Celebrating 50 Years of Service to God and the Community

November 20, 1955: Sunday School opened in the gymnasium of Queen Elizabeth School. There were 83 children in attendance.

April 1, 1956: The Rev'd H.G. Smith was appointed Rector

April 20, 1956: First parish meeting held with election of officers

June 3, 1956: First Service conducted at Queen Elizabeth School. 104 persons in attendance.

September 1956: Church choir was formed consisting of 17 junior and 14 senior members.

July 5, 1956: Building Committee formed

June 19, 1957: Contract awarded to Modern Construction Co. Ltd. For erection of church building

June 26, 1957: Official sod turning, by Archdeacon J.J. Alexander, the Rev'd  H.G. Smith, and warden, W. H. McKay

November 1, 1957: Cornerstone laid by the Right Rev'd A.H. O?Neil, Bishop of Fredericton

December 22, 1957: First Service held in St. Philip's

January 20, 1958: Official Dedication Service

April 23, 1958: St. Philip's Women's Auxiliary was formed

1960: House purchased and moved to 40 Lynch Street for use as a Rectory

October 17, 1960: Rev. Canon E.R. McCordick was appointed Rector

January 1965: The Rev'd R.G. Hyde was appointed Rector

August 15, 1975: The Rev'd George Akerley was appointed Rector

September 1983: The Rev'd Stuart W. Allan was appointed Rector

1984: Mother's Union branch formed

May 1, 1988: St. Philip's Church consecrated by the Most Rev'd H. L. Nutter, Bishop of Fredericton

September 1988: The Rev'd Canon R. B. Stockall was appointed Rector

May 1994: The Rev'd Kevin Borthwick appointed Rector

2002: New Rectory constructed for St. Philip?s Parish at 36 Lynch Street

2006: St. Philip's celebrates 50 years of Christian ministry in Moncton
